This project began with the act of collecting words in Korean and English that describe diverse practices of intimacy, violence, and sex between men. These words were then created into blocks of letters that were, in turn, covered with sheets of rubber, hiding the words. In order to make these words legible, people had to perform the actions indicated by these words. The rubber sheets that initially hides these words thus comes to serve as the screen upon which the meanings of these words become displayed. The reading/decoding of the text in “Body-Words Between Men” is thus performative, being a process of simultaneously disclosing and hiding the text.
