Through the process of writing and interpreting words related to the Korean gay community, the triennial project, “Ball of Contents” raises issues about authorship and the relativity of text. Within the concrete scope of time and space, such as “Seoul in Spring 2004,” words related to the Korean gay community are collected and placed on the wall of the exhibition space. Arranged disjunctively on the wall, these words become interpreted according to the audience’s experiences. Those who are familiar with gay culture can easily decode them and for others, they are a mere jumble of words. After the exhibition, the letters are torn off the wall and crumpled into a ball. The amount of information contained in the text becomes converted into the volume of the ball. Meanwhile, this entire process of making the ball is videotaped and played in the next exhibit.
